Technology

MicroLED, powered by Chip-on-Board.

A new generation of display technology engineered for clarity, durability, and seamless scale — explained without the noise.

What is MicroLED?

Every pixel is its own light source.

MicroLED is a self-emissive display technology — each pixel produces its own light. The result is deep blacks, smooth gradients, refined color, and the ability to build seamless modular surfaces of nearly any size or shape.

Cubic Red’s MicroLED systems use advanced Chip-on-Board (COB) construction, which embeds LEDs into a protective surface layer with nano-coating. Compared with traditional SMD-style approaches, COB reduces the exposure of solder joints, supporting durability and serviceability in real-world environments.

Why MicroLED Matters

Image quality you can feel in the room.

Deep Blacks

Pixels turn off completely for true black levels and contrast.

Smooth Gradients

Subtle transitions render without banding or color shifts.

Seamless Scale

Modular panels build a continuous canvas — no bezels.

Wide Viewing Angle

Consistent color and brightness from across the room.

Comparison

MicroLED + COB vs traditional approaches.

Cubic Red

Cubic Red MicroLED + COB

  • Self-emissive pixels for deep blacks
  • Seamless panel-to-panel image
  • Chip-on-Board with nano-coating
  • Reduced exposure of solder joints
  • Modular serviceability

Traditional

Traditional LCD / Projection

  • Backlight-dependent
  • Visible bezels in multi-display
  • Limited viewing angles
  • Lamp / panel lifespan limits
  • Limited scalability

Traditional

Traditional SMD-style LED

  • Exposed surface-mounted LEDs
  • Higher physical vulnerability
  • Visible pixel structure at close range
  • More complex servicing
  • Less refined finish

Comparisons are general guidance; specific performance depends on the panel, configuration, and environment.

Pixel Pitch & Viewing Distance

The right pitch for the right space.

Pixel pitch — the distance between LED pixels — should be matched to how close the audience will be to the wall. A finer pitch supports closer viewing; a larger pitch is well suited to long-distance viewing and architectural-scale installations. Cubic Red supports a range of pitches selected per project.
